Pointless Conversation of the day...

By Rob Worley on Dec 12, 2008 | In Blah blah | Send feedback »

She says, "Is it supposed to snow today?"

I look out the window. Snow is falling.

"It's snowing," is my response.

"Is it supposed to snow today?" she asks, emphatically.

Puzzled, I repeat, "It is snowing."

"I know, but is it supposed to snow?"

"It's snowing, so I guess it's supposed to snow," I say, still not clear on where this line of interrogation is going.

"But did they say on TV it's supposed to snow?" she asks.

"I don't know," I say. "I don't pay attention to that."

"Me either," she replies.

Now I see.

It was going nowhere.

BOXCAR CHILDREN take no prisoners!

By Rob Worley on Nov 4, 2008 | In Short Tales | Send feedback »

Three new books I've worked on this year have shown up on Amazon.com this week. They are issues of the 'Boxcar Children' series of graphic novels, based on the long-running and immensely popular kids lit series by Gertrude Chandler Warner.

I adapted the books into a comic book script, with the goal of an almost-religious adherence Warner's stories and language. My good buddy Mike Dubisch (who illustrated 'Heir to Fire' as well as the various Short Tales books that I adapted). Other 'Boxcar' books were adapted by Shannon Eric Denton and Christopher E. Long and illustrated again by Dubisch.

Check out these swell covers:

Boxcar Children #2 - Surprise Island
Boxcar Children #3 - The Yellow House Mystery
Boxcar Children #6 - Blue Bay Mystery

AIN'T IT COOL calls THE REVENANT a 4-Star Book

The Revenant OGN, coming this September from Desperado

Ryan McLelland, one of the @$$holes (hey...I ain't insulting anyone here) over at Ain't It Cool took a look at my new graphic novel, THE REVENANT and gave it 4 stars.

"...rocketing a pulp comic straight into the 21st century. Who is the Revenant and why is he after these mob people is all a part of the unfolding mystery – a welcome graphic novel you’ll read in one shot. For those looking for a complete story that will enthrall you’ll be hard pressed to find a better book than THE REVENANT and it is easily a 4-star book."

Thanks, Ryan!

SCOOP says you'll want to check out THE REVENANT

By Rob Worley on Oct 13, 2008 | In The Revenant | Send feedback »

Just got emailed this link about my new graphic novel THE REVENANT which gets  a nice recommendation from the Scoop website:

"It's not intended for children (language and violence), but it's a very interesting modern run at the world of pulp adventures and the old tale of criminals who sell out their own. If that's your cup of tea, you'll definitely want to check this one out."

RUE MORGUE spills BLOOD (colored ink) over THE REVENANT

By Rob Worley on Sep 6, 2008 | In The Revenant | Send feedback »

Nice to see my new book THE REVENANT getting some press at Rue Morgue magazine this month! The "Quick Cut featured in their Blood in Four Colours column isn't online so I'm presenting it here:

"Mexico's Dia de los Muertos is fertile ground for horror. The Revenant milks the holiday's potential when the ghost of a murdered gang member returns to settle old scores. Cinematic in its telling, the book is at its heart a gorefest (the aquarium kill in particular is a gruesome treat), but with its whodunnit trail of clues it owes almost as much to Detective Comics and Dick Tracy as it does to Nightmare on Elm Street. Bright colours invoke the festival's essence, and Mat Santolouco's art, though sometimes cartoony, manages to keep things dark. Downsides? It starts slow and Fredd Krueger did the punny dialogue better. But the multiple twists will keep you guessing at the killer's identity and make for a fun ride."

'Sgt. Rock' looks AMAZING

By Rob Worley on Sep 2, 2008 | In Comics Talk | Send feedback »

I ran into my pal Billy Tucci at a number of conventions this summer. He was showing of pages of his new 'Sgt. Rock' book.

I have to say they look Amazing (with a capital 'A') and unlike anything I've ever seen Billy do before. Billy's got a deep, abiding respect for our military men and 'Sgt. Rock: The Lost Batallion' looks to weave historical events with the storyline of DC Comic's greatest soldier.

It's in the catalog now, so ask your retailer for it.

Comics Waiting Room digs THE REVENANT

The Revenant OGN, coming this September from Desperado

'The Revenant' got some great press from Comics Waiting Room this week:

"THE REVENANT is a darkly humorous and thrilling tale that consistently keeps the reader laughing, guessing and horrified at nearly every turn. This books manages to blend the classic ghost-takes-revenge story idea, a whodunnit mystery and plenty of action sequences into a seamless, fast-paced and immensely enjoyable read."

ThePullBox.com calls 'Revenant' a "thrill ride"

By Rob Worley on Jul 16, 2008 | In The Revenant | Send feedback »

ThePullBox read 'The Revenant' ...and loved it!

The book is a thrill ride… page to page action! The break-neck pacing is supported by some beautiful art that pops in all the right ways… from urban landscapes to decapitations, every page is on the money. This book is like the Sopranos meets the X-files with and integration of classic pulps that does nothing but enhance everything present. The Revenant is a great mixture of genres and Mat Santolouco’s art is almost a genetic match for Rob Worley’s plot.

Grade: no-brainer A

I {heart} Crazy Sushi

By Rob Worley on May 12, 2008 | In Blah blah | Send feedback »

Some time last year I ventured over to a restaurant called Crazy Sushi for the first time. It's walking distance from my house and I love the makizushi.

As I watched Lee prepare my first order, I immediately recognized the guy was a kung fu master with a black belt in the fish and rice arts. Although the restaurant was new, the walls were already graced with a handful of hand-made works of art...expressions of affections by his growing customer base.

I decided to join the tradition of creating art for the restaurant, so I doodled a drawing on the back of one of the order forms as I waited.

By the time Lee finished creating my dinner I had finished my pencil drawing: a sketch of an intense-looking, muscled-out, guitar hero of a fish, griding away on his undersea axe, which was wired up to an oyster-shell amp. Above "Rock Fish's" head were the words: CRAZY SUSHI RAWX!!.

Crazy Sush Rawx!!

Imagine my surprise when, just last week, Lee hands me his new business cards. Apparently the Rock Fish (or is it Rawk Fish?) is now part of the store's official logo!!

The art will be used on store T-Shirts as well.

I am, of course, extremely honored, and I stand by the proclamation of that particular drawing: Crazy Sushi in Madison Heights does, in fact, RAWK!

I keep tellin' ya...
