I {heart} Crazy Sushi

Some time last year I ventured over to a restaurant called Crazy Sushi for the first time. It’s walking distance from my house and I love the makizushi.

As I watched Lee prepare my first order, I immediately recognized the guy was a kung fu master with a black belt in the fish and rice arts. Although the restaurant was new, the walls were already graced with a handful of hand-made works of art…expressions of affections by his growing customer base.

I decided to join the tradition of creating art for the restaurant, so I doodled a drawing on the back of one of the order forms as I waited.

By the time Lee finished creating my dinner I had finished my pencil drawing: a sketch of an intense-looking, muscled-out, guitar hero of a fish, griding away on his undersea axe, which was wired up to an oyster-shell amp. Above “Rock Fish’s” head were the words: CRAZY SUSHI RAWX!!.

Crazy Sush Rawx!!

Imagine my surprise when, just last week, Lee hands me his new business cards. Apparently the Rock Fish (or is it Rawk Fish?) is now part of the store’s official logo!!

The art will be used on store T-Shirts as well.

I am, of course, extremely honored, and I stand by the proclamation of that particular drawing: Crazy Sushi in Madison Heights does, in fact, RAWK!

I keep tellin’ ya…

These comic book movies are going to take off some day.

Corrupted…whut?

I saw this kid do 45 minutes of stand up for an audience of five in a hotel room at Comic-Con last year.

He’s out of his mind.

The GENIUS kind of out of his mind.

200!

I’ve been very diligently watching my diet for many months now.

This weekend the scale says I weigh less than 200 lbs for the first time in about 15 years.

I think I’ll celebrate.

WITH FOOD!

Don’t worry…

…The ugly skins shall return!

Congrats to Steve and Dorothy

My good friends Steve and Dorothy Gerding have given birth to Sienna Elizabeth Chin Gerding!

Congratulations!

Creative insights online

Darryl Kravitz Taylor has launched his Think Behind the Ink website, promoting his new DVD series. Darryl’s an amazingly inventive guy who has worked in comics for years and co-created the character “Chassis”. I’ve been after him for years to distill his creative process down into a book. Now it’s a DVD.

I haven’t seen the disc yet, but I understand a copy is on the way.

My Godzi Valentine

Screaming Foreground Lady...I love you...My brother found what may be the most sincere pre-printed Valentine’s Day greetings of all time. He bought a bunch off of some clearance table and gave some to me.

Nothing says “I love you” like a searing, engulfing blast of radioactive flame from a giant dragonsaur…
