Local paper takes a look at ‘Heir to Fire’
C&G Newspapers in my area put the spotlight on your’s truly last week.
It’s a nice write up, but I’m not as old (so not 48) or scary (note to self: smile for the camera next time) as the online version makes me out to be.

There’s a new interview up at TeensReadToo.com in which I talk about writing, mostly with a focus on “Heir to Fire”. It also features, oddly enough, the first reprinting in several decades of my first published work!

Actionopolis books got an tremendous mention in the Tony’s Tips column of the latest issue of Comics Buyer’s Guide (#1626). Tony Isabella liked all seven of the books but I was very pleased that he gave “Heir to Fire” highest marks.
Here’s what Tony wrote:
This feels and reads like a really good Marvel comic of the 1970s or so….It?s big fun that would work well on the big screen. It earns the full five out of five Tonys plus the special ‘Best of Show’ ribbon.
“Heir to Fire” is obviously influenced by Marvel’s big monsters. I’m a huge fan of Isabella’s giant monster comics of the 1970s. In fact it was his “It: The Living Colossus” mini-series that introduced me to Fin Fang Foom, the graddaddy of all of Kirby’s big beasts.
So, it does my heart good to read Isabella’s review.

If you shop books at Borders, there’s a printable coupon online that lets you take home a free book when you buy two.
I, of course, recommend using it to pick up a copy of “Heir to Fire” and two other fine Actionopolis books, which are now stocked at Borders across the country.
Use BordersStores.com to search the inventory of your local shop, then print out that coupon and enjoy some thrill-packed tales of action and adventure.
Read MoreActionopolis books at 50% off make great holiday gifts for the youngsters!
So, you’ve got some young readers in your life and you’re stuck on the holiday shopping. My suggestions? Get those 8-15-year-old readers a copy of Heir to Fire or one of the other Actionopolis books.
If you have three kids to buy for, you can get the books for about $7.34 a piece (or $5.61 off of cover price).
Even better, if you’re looking to pick up books for five kids, you can get an even bigger discount: $6.67 each (or almost 50% off cover price).
You’ll need to jump through some online shopping hoops, but it’s worth it! Here’s how you do it:
- Sign up for a Google Checkout account. This is Google’s new universal payment system. They aim to make it so that you have one shopping login ID that’s good at numerous online vendors for convenient and secure shopping.
- Go to Buy.com and browse the Actionopolis books. Put 3 or 5 in your cart.
- You’ll get Free Shipping for ordering over $30 worth of stuff. WARNING: If you see a shipping charge at checkout, look around for an option to switch to free (slower) shipping.
- You won’t pay sales tax in most states.
-
Here’s the best part: When you check out, look for this button:

Use that button to check out with your new Google Checkout account.
- Google will automatically give you $20 off your order of $50 or more, or $10 off your order of $30 or more.
Now, just to be clear, the Google discount happens automatically. There’s no rebate to send it or anything like that. They simply reduce your total checkout price right on the spot.
Here’s how that math breaks down:

Jennifer Wardrip over at TeensReadToo.com just posted her review of “Heir to Fire”
This is a great book for younger teens, pre-teens, or older reluctant readers. Filled with wonderful illustrations, short chapters, and an intriguing story line, you’ll be glad that the last page of HEIR TO FIRE isn’t “the end,” but rather just the beginning.
Hey! It’s no wonder they call her “The Genius”!
