I found out last week that ‘Serenity’/'Firefly’ star Nathan Fillion has kinda sorta recommended my book ‘Heir to Fire’ as a good chapter book for reluctant readers.
Here’s the scoop: Fillion and his friend, novelist P.J. Haarsma have a non-profit concern going called Kids Need to Read (KNTR) which is committed to donating books to libraries with the goal of engaging kids.

The organization has placed ‘Heir to Fire’ and the other six Actionopolis books on their official list of worthy books for 2008.
That’s not all. KNTR is setting up shop at the Phoenix Cactus Comicon this weekend.
They’ll have a discussion panel on Saturday, January 26 at 12:00 PM with PJ Haarsma and their website states: “members of our audience who ask us a question will receive a free book (while quantities last).“
Listed among the free books is ‘Heir to Fire’ along with the other six Actionopolis titles, as well as many other fine books.

Not having new stuff in stores for a long stretch feels very unnerving.
The last new book I had was final issue of ‘Advent Rising’, limping into shops late last year. As things fall, it looks like the first issue of ‘The Revenant’ won’t be out until early next year.
Makes me wonder what I’ve been doing?
Truth is, I’ve been doing quite a bit.
I wrote three children’s storybooks which will come out late in 2008. I wrote the screenplay (Codename: 3D), which is still giving me good vibes. I wrote a second ‘Heir to Fire’ book. I wrote and produced 10 pages of new comic I’m pitching around (Codename: Hot Rod) with local superstar Marc Nischan.
Still…those damn crickets keep singing their damned cricket songs.

Heading out to Comic-Con in San Diego this week.
For me, things are more hectic this year than every before. I’m wearing two hats: that of comic-book writer (pitching and promoting projects) and Editor/journalist of the newly-revitalized Comics2Film.
If you’re coming out to the show find me at the Actionopolis booth #2103.
We’ll be selling “Heir to Fire” and the other great Actionopolis books at low, low, crazy-low Comic-con prices!
We’ll be handing out postcards for “The Revenant”.
I’ve got a 10-page preview book (for now I’m referring to it as Codename: Hot Rod) that I’ll be handing out to editors and publishers, but ask me about it if you want a sneak peek at this cool new book.
Lots of pitches, interviews, after hours stuff…maybe Jonah Weiland will even let me board the CBR pirate ship.
See ya out there!
