Typing “THE END” on a major writing project has to be one of the most immensely satisfying feelings.

That’s just what I did about a half hour ago.

I’m talking about screenplay, my ninth, if I’m counting right. My third if I’m counting the ones worth reading.

This one has been a ball. It came to me through another writer friend of mine, who had developed a pitch and an outline, but was having trouble balancing his workload with other hot projects he’s got going on it.

We were initially going to tag-team it, alternately writing blocks of pages, shuffling and re-dealing the next round. As it happened, my buddy’s hot projects took precedence, so I decided to charge through this one myself.

For blogging, I’m calling it Codename: 3D until it’s true title can be revealed to the unsuspecting world at large.

I’ve decided to shed some of my old work habits and try to adopt some new ones. I’ve been very aggressively banging this into shape, refusing to be blocked and if I’m blocked, writing anyway. Writing forward and never back tracking. Trusting the characters to lead the way. Trusting myself to tie it all together.

I have to say it’s worked out rather well. This entire, raw, first draft has taken less than three weeks to write. I’ll be doing some fine sanding on the edges tomorrow and then passing it off to my partner for review.

There’ll be rewriting. I can already see scenes I want to change and areas where I know the piece needs fortification.

But to type those magic words…oh joy.
