YAO debuts to big fun 9

Last night I signed my first autograph on the interior pages of a copy of “Epic Anthology” #1. The copy went to Karen at my store appearance at Comics & More in Madison Heights, MI.

YAO fans gathering at Comics & MoreTom, who runs the store, had placed a sizable order for the comic and I was very much relieved to see him left with only a handful of extra copies at the end of the night.

Also on hand was author Ryan Kaluzny, supporting his first novel “& Guest”.

It was great fun until the kung fu fighting broke out leaving Tom’s store devastated. A hastily muttered spell unleashed the Mists of Morpheus and brought a tranquil calm over the masses and restored order to the scene.

Congrats, Rob. Very cool. And, oh look, there’s snow on the ground outside the window.

So, are you bitter much that SLEEPWALKER is the featured character on the cover?!? 😉

I’ll be picking up my copy tonight after work. I’ll be sure to bring it with me to San Diego.

I’m not bitter about the Sleepwalker thing (even though the character isn’t actually IN the freakin’ comic). I understand that Sleepwalker is the most recognizable character in the book and Kirkman is the most well-known creator in the book. So those two things have to be a positive influence on sales.

I AM bitter about the snow though.

Congrats Rob. I can’t wait to get my copy. Having been an avid C2Fer for a couple years now, I can’t help but be disturbed by stumbling across pictures of the bottom half of your head. Never thought I’d see the day.

Read the comic last night. I have very limited experience with kung fu movies, but I like what I saw. Reminded me a bit of a Jackie Chan movie (DRUNKEN MASTER, perhaps?), with the smartass woman and the wisecracking hero character. Kinda like an Asian Spider-Man. 😉

I had better get to read the rest of this damned thing. Marvel, are you listening?!? UGH

Glad you liked it Augie. There’s a Jet Li movie, released in the U.S. as “The Legend” that has a similar vibe. In that one, Jet learned his mad kung fu skills from the master…his mother! The mother character is great in that movie. Leung is as loopy as that character but it was definitely an inspiration. Of course the Iron Monkey nod is obvious too.

I hope we get to put out #2 and 3, because things definitely change for our hero because (as you can see from the last panel) he’s about to learn the hard way that dressing up and kicking butt is not all fun and games and it’s time to rethink his role in the village and in the world.
