YAO Round-up 1

Andy and Bill's promo art for 'Young Ancient One'One of the main reasons for starting up Thanator.com was to shamelessly self-promote my work as a writer. At the top of the list for that category is my Marvel/Epic comic “Young Ancient One.” I’m writing the book with multi-talented Andy Kuhn doing the artwork, Bill Crabtree handling the colors and Dave Sharpe doing the lettering. Here’s a run-down of events to bring everyone up to date:

We got a smattering of press for the book back in May, when word first leaked out in the omniscient Rich Johnston’s Lying in the Gutters column.

That mention led to this nice write up by Beau Yarbrough at CBR. The article provides a pretty good intro to what we have planned for the book.

That was followed by another write up by Eric Moreels at ComiX-Fan. ComiX-Fan has become the place to go for discussion about all Epic titles. Editor Stephanie Moore even maintains an ongoing dialogue with Epic hopefuls there. Check out the Epic message boards.

YAO #1 - Art by Andy Kuhn, Colors by Bill CrabtreeYou can click either of the above articles for a swell, large-size look at the “YAO” promo artwork you see at left. When I launch the YAO mini-site here, I’ll make sure you have all the approved YAO artwork you want to see.

After the May chatter things quieted down a bit, with Andy and I busying ourselves with getting the book done.

Moore did do an interview with ComicX-Fan late August, where “YAO” was mentioned. If you click on that one you’ll get a color preview of the cover to issue #1!

That brings us up to date on the significant public mentions of “YAO”. Right now I have all scripts for the three-issue mini done and approved. Andy is hard at work on the art. I’m expecting the book to be in stores early next year, but I there’s no firm release date for it at this point.

I’ll post progress reports here as things start to emerge. Watch for the YAO mini-site soon, with some fun stuff for interested readers!
